Grant for Ground Source Heat Pump
We've just had confirmation of another grant towards our Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP). The Department of Energy and Climate Change have promised funds of just under £49,000. This brings our total external grants received for the GSHP to almost £80,000. Contractors have now started drilling 100m deep (yes 100m!) boreholes into the ground. This is stage 1 of the GSHP process.

Construction gets underway
The builders have set up their sheds and fenced off our site for safety. The construction works started by clearing some contaminated earth and the foundations of the old caretaker's house. During half-term they dug a trench to install a drain which joins at the Akiva School.
They removed more earth and prepared the site for piling (a column of wood or steel or concrete that is driven into the ground to provide support for a structure).
Drilling the ground followed to create the piled foundations.

Here we go!
We’re delighted to announce that our builders, Allenbuild are commencing construction of our new building today.
The first stage will be piling the ground for the foundations. You’ll finally see a lot of activity on-site with huge machines preparing holes in the ground. This is the start of a 61 week programme.
This will be followed by the drilling of extremely deep bore holes for our ground source heat pump and conditions will be muddy for a while. This will help heat our new building and will reduce our CO2 emissions by up to 20%. We are very pleased to confirm that we’ve just had confirmation of a grant of £30,000 towards this renewable energy source from Big Lottery.
